Medlock delivered the hotel fit-out at Mollie's Manchester. Spanning 80,000 sq ft across five floors of the historic Granada Studios, this is Mollie’s first city centre location and largest site to date. As a Manchester contractor, it was a privilege to play a small part in the next chapter of this landmark.
Medlock were appointed not long after construction had started following the insolvency of the previous main contractor. Taking over, we undertook a full validation and assurance process of all inherited works before completing the £11m project on time and to programme.
Working within a culturally significant heritage building presented unique challenges throughout. Medlock worked closely with Allied London and the design team to make sure the finished rooms honoured the building's mid-century roots whilst delivering the quality and specification Mollie's guests expect.
The scope covered 128 guest rooms and suites with a fit out of nine different room types. These ranged from classic doubles and twin rooms through to comfy rooms with kitchenettes and lounge areas and luxury studio suites featuring freestanding bath tubs, walk-in wardrobes and Peloton bikes. On the sixth floor, 23 bedrooms sit alongside an 80 square metre private apartment with open plan living space and a connecting second bedroom.
Every room was finished to Mollie's signature 'luxe look, easy style' style - dark wood oak panelling, terrazzo details, aged brass and natural oak finishes. Medlock’s bespoke joinery also runs consistently throughout the hotel rooms here.
The result is a warm, design-led palette that feels at home in a building of this character. The quality and consistency of finish across every room type was central to the brief, and central to how Medlock FRB approached delivery.
The project was delivered at the same time alongside the restaurant, bar and public spaces fit-out, requiring careful programme management and coordination.
Mollie's Manchester represents Medlock's largest ever project and demonstrates the business's capability to step in, validate inherited works and deliver a complex, design-led hotel fit-out service on one of the most significant hospitality openings in Manchester for years.
