The Alfred Wainwright, Haven Lakeland

Client: Haven Leisure

Architect: Harrison Ince

Duration: 12 weeks

Value: £450k

Medlock has delivered the complete remodelling of Haven Lakeland's former Lakeside Bay Restaurant into The Alfred Wainwright - a new Wetherspoon pub named after the legendary fell walker who mapped the Lake District's 214 peaks.

The project forms part of Haven's ongoing investment to improve food and drink offerings across their parks in partnership with J D Wetherspoon. This one brings the established pub brand to this scenic location on the edge of the Lake District National Park.

The comprehensive 12 week refurbishment increased the venue's capacity from 212 to 304 internal covers, with a further 140 external seats overlooking the lakeside setting.

Our works included full internal reconfiguration to improve flow and functionality throughout the space, installation of a new bar and backbar, plus a complete refresh of decorations, lighting and flooring.

The updated layout delivers a modern, high-quality pub environment that brings the Wetherspoon experience to the Lake District whilst complementing Haven Lakeland's family-focused holiday park setting.

The specialist refurbishment was carried out on time and on budget with the park remaining fully operational, requiring careful planning and coordination with Haven's operations team so there was minimal disruption to guests.

This project marks our return to Haven Lakeland following the successful delivery of a multi-area upgrade in 2025, building on our strong partnership with Haven Leisure across multiple locations including Kent Coast, Skegness and Cleethorpes and Cala Gran.
