Phoenix Picture House, Oxford
- Client: Cineworld Group
- Architect: Panter Hudspith Architects
- Duration: 6 Weeks
The first cinema ever to open in the university city of Oxford has been given a careful restoration by Medlock.
Dating back to 1913, the age of silent movies, the Phoenix was the original venue in the Picturehouse group of 21 cinemas before being acquired by Cineworld in 2012.
The main scope of works involved the installation of new steppings to the two auditoria, the conversion of a projection room into a new lounge snug and the refurbishment of the public areas.
The entrance and foyer area have been upgraded, and the interior and exterior fully decorated.
All works were designed to preserve the unique charm and feel of the grand old cinema, whilst providing a 21st-century customer experience.
