The Hardy Pick, Sheffield

  • Client: Greene King PLC
  • Architect: JDA
  • Value: £1.3m
  • Duration: 23 weeks

The latest new-build Hungry Horse branded pub restaurant has opened its doors in the Heeley district of Sheffield.

The new building is on the site of the former Hardy Patent Pick Company, which manufactured high-class machines and tools for the mining and railway industries in the 1870s. As a consequence, the brownfield site required remediation to remove asbestos and contaminated ground before construction work and the interior fit-out of the family-focused pub could begin.

Once these elements of the project were undertaken, Medlock’s experienced site team incorporated environmentally-sustainable design features into the scheme, such as heat-recovery technology and an energy-saving cellar cooling system to achieve a BREEAM assessment of ‘very good’.

The Hardy Pick promises to be another hugely successful venue for Greene King’s family-led big-value brand, and is the second project Medlock has delivered in the city of Sheffield.
